Getting Around

Driving into Tamarindo, the scenery changes swiftly to busy streets from rural farmlands packed full of tanned surfers heading to the beach and interested tourists checking the countless souvenir stores out. When you complete Las Baulas National Marine Park and also the landmark Best Western Hotel, the key highway runs parallel to the beach for 1.5 miles (2.5 km.) until it leads to a tiny cul de sac. The sidewalks are covered with stores pharmacies, restaurants and resorts to support visitors.

At the town's first intersection, (ahead of the cul-de-sac) there's an eastbound path that forks for the remaining leading to more shops and hotels - all in just a distance of the center of town. Tourists staying in Tamarindo can easily access every one of the town's facilities on-foot although several hotels damaged with pot holes and can be found on back-roads, which can be dim. The highways in Tamarindo are largely unpaved and through the dry season - from December to May - the dirt could be overwhelming. There are several options for individual shuttle transportation and public coach from Tamarindo to regional locations. From Tamarindo: Buses leave at 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.

From Santa Cruz: Buses leave at 12:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Trip Duration: Around 1-hour Price: US$1.3 (650 CRC).

Alfaro: Tamarindo - San Jose (2222-2666, 2255-0775) Trip Duration: Between 6 and 7 hours Cost: US$10 (5,000 CRC).

From Tamarindo: Buses depart at 3: 30 a.m.; 5: 30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

From San Jose: Buses depart at 11: 3 and 30: 30.

Private Shuttles
Two common organizations taxi tourists to locations like San Jose, Nosara, Samara Pais Monteverde, Arenal and much more in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle.

Car Rental
Tamarindo has seven different rental companies where guests may rent both transmission automobiles and typical for around $50 a day. Note: The main road to Tamarindo may be crowded with a great deal of traffic - competitors must be careful.
